Effects of deployment and traumatic brain injury on headache

Traumatic brain injury (TBI), which occurs in 15–20% soldiers deployed in the Iraq or Afghanistan wars, and stress, an inherent part of deployment, are individually associated with headache. Migraine impairs quality of life (QoL) and school functioning in children at levels similar to cancer and arthritis. The burden is most pronounced among those with chronic migraine.    Powers et al conducted a randomized clinical trial to compare the effects of cognitive behavioral therapy plus amitriptyline (CBT+A) with headache education plus amitriptyline (HE+A) on school functioning and quality of life.
