Headache Fellowship Opportunities

Welcome to the field of Headache Medicine, an exciting, dynamic field with a grateful, motivated patient population and a strong academic presence. This site was created to make it easier for fellowship applicants to find information about current training programs and to help them navigate the application process. The information for each program is maintained by the programs themselves, including details on the history of the program, the faculty, the facilities and the mission of each center. In 2006, the first programs were accredited in Headache Medicine. Today, there are more than 40 programs in the US providing a structured training program to prepare fellows in the practice of Headache Medicine.

Recently, the American Headache Society joined the American Academy of Neurology in arranging a more transparent timeline for application. The fellowship application process is to begin no earlier than March 1 of Neurology PGY3 Adult/ PGY4 Child year. Fellowship job offers are not to be made earlier than August 1st of PGY4 Adult/ PGY5 Child year. The application dates remain standard across the programs that are represented here. This is to help provide residents with sufficient time to gain experience in the breadth of medical training and to ensure a grounded focus in the field.

Current application season 2021: Interview season concluded in July 2021. On Monday August 2, 2021, initial fellowship offers will be communicated to applicants at 9am PDT. Programs will allow applicants 24 hours to accept or decline the offer, after which time second round of offers will be communicated as of August 3, 2021 at 10am PDT. Each program will contact their top choice for each position on August 2nd but will not contact their next choice until AFTER August 3, 2021 at 10am PDT. After that time programs may contact applicants on their own schedule.

All offers, whether initially written or verbal, should be followed by written confirmation and it is requested that all responses are similarly written.
