The flagship offerings of the First Contact - Headache in Primary Care program are our three one-hour presentations delivered by experts in headache care and tailored to your audience’s needs. Available digitally On Demand with an option for CME credit or as in-person presentations at no cost to your institution, these sessions cover essential topics, including Headache in Primary Care, A Woman’s Migraine Journey, and Migraine in Pediatrics. We provide the speakers, slide materials, and can provide Zoom capabilities for a virtual presentation. In support of the talk, participants will have access to an ever-growing library of resources for managing headache in a primary care setting.

What is First Contact: Headache in Primary Care?
First Contact is an educational program from the American Headache Society (AHS) that equips primary care and allied clinicians with practical, evidence-based tools to improve headache and migraine care.
What First Contact presentations are available?
Three one-hour sessions are available: Headache in Primary Care, A Woman’s Migraine Journey, and Migraine in Pediatrics.
How do I request a First Contact presentation?
Use the online request form below. You’ll be asked to share your audience, preferred date, and format.
Who are the First Contact presentations designed for?
These sessions are designed for primary care and allied clinicians who care for patients with headache and migraine, including family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, OB/GYN, PAs, NPs, and similar roles.
Are First Contact presentations intended for neurologists or headache specialists?
First Contact is built for primary care and allied clinicians, not for neurologists or headache specialists seeking advanced subspecialty education.
Is there a cost to host a presentation at my institution?
No. There is no cost to the institution.
Who delivers the presentation, and can I request a specific presenter?
Presentations are delivered by AHS-affiliated headache specialists and First Contact faculty. AHS matches speakers to your audience, and specific presenter requests can be accommodated when the requested speaker is part of the First Contact faculty.
Do I need to be an AHS member to request a presentation?
No. Both AHS members and non-members can request a First Contact presentation.
How long is a First Contact presentation?
Each session is 60 minutes total, including Q&A (typically 10–15 minutes).
How many participants can attend?
First Contact is designed for group education (departments, residency programs, Grand Rounds, conferences) and does not have a strict maximum attendance.
Is there a minimum number of attendees required?
Yes. A minimum of 10 attendees is required.
Are presentations virtual or in-person?
Presentations are available in person at your institution or as live virtual sessions. On-demand versions are also available through AHS Education On Demand.
What technology is required for a virtual presentation?
Typically, the requesting institution provides the video platform (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, etc.).
Do First Contact presentations offer CME?
CME may be available for live and virtual presentations. To allow time for required peer review, please request CME at least 30 days in advance.
Can I schedule a presentation for Grand Rounds, a conference, or a symposium?
Yes. Sessions can be scheduled as part of Grand Rounds, conferences, symposium tracks, and residency or fellowship education.
Are First Contact presentations available outside of the United States?
Not at this time. First Contact presentations are currently available only to institutions based in the United States.
Where have you presented First Contact?
First Contact has been presented at academic medical centers, residency and fellowship programs, health systems, and primary care groups across the United States.
What other resources are available through First Contact?
First Contact also offers a library of free resources for primary care, including The First Contact Podcast, the Migraine Management Flowchart, Patient Guides, Migraine Quick Guides, and more.
Will you offer additional topics in the future?
Yes. The program continues to evolve, and additional topics and formats may be added over time based on primary care feedback and educational needs. Urgent and Emergent Migraine Care is currently in development.
Can I watch a presentation without scheduling one for my institution?
Yes. Each presentation is available on demand through AHS Education On Demand, with options to earn CME credit.
