Moving Headache Medicine Forward at the 68th Annual Scientific Meeting

The 68th Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Headache Society will take place June 4-7, 2026, at the Orlando World Center Marriott in Orlando, Florida, bringing together the headache medicine community for four days of science, collaboration, and shared purpose. For more than 60 years, the American Headache Society has led the field forward, and this meeting continues to serve as the premier venue for the latest research and clinical advances in headache medicine.

A key part of what makes this meeting possible is the work of the Scientific Program Committee, which shapes the scientific foundation of the entire program. In the video below, committee co-chair Mark Burish shares a behind-the-scenes look at how the meeting comes together and why it matters to the future of headache medicine. The committee is co-chaired by Mark Burish, MD, PhD (UTHealth Houston) and Dr. Christina Szperka, MD, MSCE (Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia).

Throughout the year, the committee works collaboratively to develop the scientific program, organize abstracts and poster sessions, identify timely topics, and bring together speakers and researchers from across the field. The goal is to create a meeting experience that reflects both the latest advances in headache medicine and the questions that will shape where the field goes next.

The Annual Scientific Meeting also serves as an important space for connection, collaboration, and continued growth within the headache community. Alongside the scientific sessions, the meeting supports conversations around mentorship, research development, and education for trainees and early- to mid-career professionals working across headache medicine and neuroscience.

That spirit of discovery and collaboration will be on full display throughout the weekend. The meeting opens with Plenary 1: New Frontiers in Treatments, setting the tone for innovation in therapeutic approaches. From there, sessions explore key areas shaping the field, including sensitization and placebo mechanisms, sensory processing and vestibular sensitivity, and the complex relationship between nausea and the gut-brain axis. The program concludes with Plenary 5: Biomarkers, Predictors, and Personalized Medicine in Headache, highlighting the ongoing shift toward more precise, individualized care. View the full agenda.

Over the four days, attendees will also engage with scientific abstracts, awards sessions, special interest group discussions, and networking opportunities that bring together clinicians, researchers, and allied health professionals from the headache community. These moments of exchange are where conversations continue, collaborations begin, and new ideas take shape.

Whether you are a clinician, researcher, trainee, or allied health professional, the 68th Annual Scientific Meeting offers an opportunity to learn from leaders in the field, explore emerging science, and connect with colleagues who are advancing headache medicine every day.
