Join the Headache® Editorial Board as an Assistant Editor

Are you a neurology resident, pediatric neurology resident, or a headache medicine fellow with a passion for headache research, medical education, and writing? Headache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain is looking for dedicated trainees to join its Editorial Board as part of the Resident & Fellows Assistant Editor Team!
Starting July 1, 2025, a new cohort will join the editorial team for a two-year term, ending June 30, 2027. This is a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience in the academic and editorial world of headache medicine, while contributing to a leading journal in the field.
Eligibility and Requirements
If you’re an adult neurology resident, pediatric neurology resident, postdoctoral researcher, or headache medicine fellow, you are encouraged to apply. You must be a current member of the American Headache Society (AHS) or submit for trainee membership alongside your application. Learn more about AHS membership here.
What We’re Looking For
Applicants should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to write and think critically. Leadership potential, a keen interest in headache research, and a passion for medical education and teaching are highly valued. We strongly encourage individuals from underrepresented backgrounds to apply.
Please note: Individuals pursuing industry or industry-adjacent roles during their term are not eligible due to potential conflicts of interest.
What You’ll Do as an Assistant Editor
Being part of the Editorial Board means you'll take on various roles, including:
- Reviewing manuscripts
- Selecting peer reviewers
- Writing and commissioning manuscripts
- Generating new ideas for the journal
- Participating in social media and marketing efforts
- Attending monthly didactic lectures on the editorial process, headache research, and medical education
The time commitment is around 5-8 hours per month, and will provide invaluable experience in academic publishing, opportunities to network with experts in the field, and a chance to directly contribute to the advancement of headache medicine.

- Proof of current AHS Trainee membership
- Your Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- At least one peer-reviewed publication
- A brief personal statement (500 words max), outlining your interest in the role, your qualifications, and how you’ll manage the expected time commitment
- A letter of recommendation from your Program Director
