Special Interest Section Edition: Autonomic Disorders
The Autonomic Disorders Special Interest Section is dedicated to exploring the intricate relationship between autonomic disorders and headache medicine. Autonomic disorders, such as postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), have been identified as significant contributors to migraine and headache disorders. Recognizing this link is pivotal for advancing diagnosis and refining management strategies. However, there needs to be more specialized research, education, and resources addressing autonomic disorders and their associated co-morbidities, including MCAS, HMS/EDS, ME/CFS, and disorders of gut-brain axis interaction (DGBI).
Our primary goal is to fill the existing knowledge gap by providing headache practitioners with specialized research, insights, and resources on autonomic disorders. Through dedicated content, we aim to enhance understanding and facilitate informed decision-making in the diagnosis and management of these complex conditions.
Autonomic disorders often coexist with primary and secondary headache disorders. Our SIS seeks to foster collaboration not only within headache medicine but also across various specialties. By bringing together professionals from diverse backgrounds, we aim to encourage interdisciplinary approaches for a more holistic understanding of autonomic disorders.
We are committed to providing educational initiatives that raise awareness about the intricate connections between autonomic dysfunction and headaches. Through webinars, workshops, and expert-led sessions, our SIS endeavors to equip practitioners with the latest insights and tools to address these complex conditions.
Establishing a comprehensive resource hub is central to our mission. We aim to compile a repository of research articles, case studies, and practical resources that will serve as a valuable reference for healthcare professionals navigating the intersection of autonomic disorders and headache medicine.

Meet the Chairs
Nada Hindiyeh, MD, FAHS
Dr. Hindiyeh is a board-certified neurologist and headache specialist and is currently the Director of Headache Medicine at Metrodora Institute. She was previously a Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology at Stanford University where she was the Director of Clinical Research for the Stanford division of Headache Medicine.
Lauren R. Natbony, MD, FAHS
Dr. Natbony is a board-certified neurologist with fellowship training and UCNS certification in headache medicine. She is the Founder and Medical Director of Integrative Headache Medicine of New York in New York City. She is also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurology in the Division of Headache and Facial Pain at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
