Headache Journal

Headache® Journal Transitions to Fully Virtual in 2026

The leadership team at Headache is excited to announce that the journal will transition to online-only publication beginning in January 2026. Our final print issue will be published in December 2025 and all subsequent issues will be available online. This decision reflects careful consideration of multiple factors that will benefit our readers and the broader headache medicine community.

Several compelling benefits drove our decision to embrace online-only publication. While we recognize that electronic delivery formats are not without environmental implications, we feel this shift to online publication is a more sustainable option, significantly reducing paper consumption and shipping-related environmental impact.

Beyond sustainability, online formats offer enhanced accessibility. Readers can easily adjust text size and utilize assistive technologies like screen readers. The digital format also enables seamless integration of supplemental materials, ensuring that graphical abstracts, video content, and additional resources are immediately accessible while reading. Our online platform directly links letters to the editor and corrections to their corresponding articles, creating a comprehensive, interconnected reading experience impossible in print.

Focusing on our online content allows for the information presented in Headache to reach the broadest possible audience. As always, our abstracts, plain language summaries, graphical abstracts, and video abstracts are all freely available online to anyone who visits our page, even when articles require subscription access.

While this transition marks the end of a cherished tradition, our leadership team is committed to preserving Headache's legacy through online content that serves a global audience and remains archived for future generations. Together, we’ll ensure that our journal remains a dynamic and trusted resource.
