Not only does she excel clinically, but she also remains involved in publications, chart reviews, and QI projects. She is also a classically trained violinist, and over the Winter Break traveled to India to perform at various concerts drawing in thousands of people!”
ABOUT DR. PAREEK
How did you become interested in Headache Medicine?
Throughout my child neurology residency, I found that patients with headache were often challenging to manage. While pain may have been the common link between these patients, their treatment plans were unique to them and often nuanced. I enjoy this more personalized form of medicine. I also appreciate that there is more to caring for patients with headache than just treating their pain. I enjoy working alongside psychology, psychiatry, physical therapy and a variety of other colleagues to provide care for this population!
What year of training are you in?
PGY 6, currently completing my headache fellowship.
How have you utilized your AHS membership during training? What is your favorite member benefit?
I will be attending the AHS 66th Annual Scientific Meeting in June and have availed of the Frontiers in Headache Research Scholarship Award to cover registration and expenses. I am very excited to utilize this learning and networking opportunity.
Who has been your mentor or biggest inspiration within the field?
My mentor Dr. Irene Patniyot has been a huge inspiration. Outside of being a wonderful clinician, she is kind and compassionate to her patients and colleagues. I often find myself asking “what would Dr. Patniyot do?” and when I follow the answer to that question, I am rarely wrong!
Name a fun fact about yourself!
Outside of medicine I am a jazz and South Indian Classical violinist. I am particularly interested in music as a form of pain management.
