2026 Headache® Journal Assistant Editor Leadership Opportunity Program Applications Open Now

The Headache Assistant Editor Leadership Opportunity Program (HALO) is a two-year editorial and leadership program designed to cultivate the next generation of leaders in headache medicine and expand the impact of Headache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain and AHS. The program emphasizes leadership development and offers peer review and editorial process training while contributing to Headache. Starting on July 1, 2026, the new cohort will join the editorial team for a two-year term ending on June 30, 2028.
HALO is designed to provide hands-on experience and mentored training in academic publishing and peer review. Participants are matched with mentors on the editorial board for monthly meetings to support learning about the peer review and editorial process, as well as the development of a longitudinal project. Mentorship also includes discussions of leadership skills and career development.
Applications for the HALO program are now open to AHS members. Eligible applicants include adult or pediatric residents, fellows, or postdoctoral researchers with a focus on headache research. Non-members can submit for Trainee membership alongside their HALO application.
To apply, you must submit proof of AHS Trainee membership or a membership application, an updated CV, a brief personal statement of interest for the HALO program (maximum 500 words) including your qualifications and how you will manage the expected time commitment (5-8 hours per month), at least one peer-reviewed publication, and a letter of recommendation.
