2026 International Headache Academy Open Now

International Headache Academy 2026 Applications Open for American Headache Society

The International Headache Academy (IHA) is one of the American Headache Society’s key educational programs. It’s designed to inspire and support early-career neurologists and clinician-scientists who want to build their careers in headache medicine. The program offers practical training in areas like diagnosis, treatment, clinical trials, research methods, and scientific publishing. It connects participants with mentors and peers who share the same passion for advancing headache care.

The 2026 International Headache Academy will take place February 26-28, 2026, at the UCLA Meyer and Renee Luskin Conference Center in Los Angeles, CA. Over the course of three days, attendees will take part in sessions led by experts, small-group mentorship, trainee presentations, and plenty of chances to connect with others in the field. Participants can also submit a research proposal for the chance to receive a $10,000 grant, with winners invited to present their work at the AHS 68th Annual Scientific Meeting in 2026.

IHA is open to PGY-3+ neurology residents, Headache Medicine fellows, and MD and/or PhD clinician-researchers who are currently in training or within five years of completing their training in the U.S., Canada, or Latin America. Those who attended in the past can apply again if they still meet the requirements. To apply, participants will submit an online form along with their CV, a brief academic update, a statement of interest, a financial disclosure, and a letter of support from a Department Chair, Program Director, or AHS member. Accepted applicants will also receive a travel stipend of up to $1,500 and a complimentary one-year AHS Trainee membership (or an extension if they’re already a member).

Last year’s IHA proved just how valuable this program is. In 2025, 51 early-career neurologists and researchers came together in Los Angeles for a mix of research presentations, career development sessions, and hands-on mentorship. The program featured practical workshops on publishing and funding, engaging talks from leaders in headache medicine, and small-group discussions that encouraged collaboration and idea-sharing among participants. Many participants left not only with new knowledge but also with lasting connections and support for the next stage of their careers.

The 2026 International Headache Academy will build on that momentum, giving the next class of trainees the chance to learn, collaborate, and take an important step forward in their journey in headache medicine. Submit your application today.
