2024 Scottsdale Headache Symposium

Since the inaugural meeting in 1970, the Scottsdale Headache Symposium® continues to be a successful venue for providing practical, clinical, evidence-based information on the diagnosis, management and treatment of headache patients. Education is presented in didactic, case-based, evidence-based, panel and demonstrative formats over the course of four days.

Who Should Attend?

This symposium is designed for general practitioners, internists, pediatricians, neurologists, anesthesiologists, dentists, physical therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and other health professionals who treat headache disorders.

2024 Scottsdale Headache Symposium

PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE

At the conclusion of this program, learners will share that they feel better prepared to manage patients presenting with headache conditions by applying best practices in Headache Medicine retailed to the diagnosis, epidemiology, and treatment of headache disorders in adults and children in clinical practice and research, and will consider the controversies and evidence for using CGRP antagonists during pregnancy, in patients with vascular risk factors and as combination therapies. Learners will report their intention to incorporate non-pharmacologic treatments in the management of migraine & select the appropriate neuroradiological investigations for various secondary headaches.

ACCREDITATION STATEMENT

The American Headache Society® is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

CREDIT DESIGNATION STATEMENT

The American Headache Society® designates this Other activity (live and recorded sessions) for a maximum of 49.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CLAIMING CME

  1. Go to Education On Demand
  2. Complete the post-activity evaluation. We suggest you wait to complete the evaluation/claim credit until you’ve watched all recorded sessions for which credit* is sought. The recorded sessions will be available until Saturday May 31, 2025 and the evaluation will be available until Monday, June 16, 2025.
  3. For ABPN Self-Assessment Credit, complete the short ABPN Self-Assessment Quiz
  4. Enter the number of CME credits being claimed per credit type
  5. Download your certificate (be sure to select AMA credit [MD/DOs] or Participation credit [all others] to access a certificate).

REGISTRATION INFORMATION
In-person registration includes admittance to all educational sessions, (except where noted), the exhibit hall, continental breakfast and refreshment breaks each day, as well as several evening receptions during the event. In-person registration also includes full access to the virtual experience (live-streamed sessions during the conference dates) and separate On Demand program.

If this is your first time at the Scottsdale Headache Symposium, sign up for the Plenary Pals program during registration and be paired with an experienced attendee who can help guide you through the agenda and meet with you onsite to ensure your experience is fantastic!


FORMS OF PAYMENT
Credit cards are the preferred method of payment. AHS accepts Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. AHS reserves the right to charge the correct amount if different from your calculated total. Charges will appear on your statement as “AHS Registration.”

Checks are acceptable when registration is submitted by mail or completed onsite at the Scottsdale Headache Symposium. Checks must be made payable (in US dollars) to the American Headache Society and issued by a US correspondent bank. The registrant is responsible for any and all bank charges. Mail to:

Wire Transfers are accepted provided that the NET AMOUNT of the wire (after bank fees) is sufficient to cover all registration fees in US dollars. Please contact AHS Headquarters for additional information on wire transfer payments.


GROUP DISCOUNTS
AHS encourages you and your colleagues to take advantage of the discounted fees available when two or more from an organization (same location) register for the meeting. Registration for group discounts must be submitted together (by mail or fax) with acceptable form(s) of payment. A discount of $25.00 per attendee (after the first attendee pays full price) will be applied.


LETTERS OF INVITATION
If requested, the AHS will send a personal invitation for participation at the Scottsdale Headache Symposium. This invitation is only meant to assist participants in raising travel funds and obtaining a VISA. This is not a commitment on the part of the AHS to provide any financial support.


CANCELLATION POLICY
Requests must be submitted via email no later than Friday, November 1, 2024.  Once the cancellation is processed, all fees paid will be refunded. If paid by credit card, please allow up to five business days for the credit to show in your bank account.  THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS AFTER THE NOVEMBER 1 DEADLINE.


MOVING FROM IN-PERSON TO VIRTUAL EXPERIENCE

Attendees wishing to move from the in-person to the virtual experience due to health, inability, or discomfort with traveling may change their registration at any point with no penalty.

2024 Scottsdale Awards

The American Headache Society is excited to open nominations to AHS members for awards to be presented during the 2024 Scottsdale Headache Symposium. AHS Members in good standing should complete a separate nomination form for each nominee and award being submitted by Monday, August 12, 2024.

New for 2024! Advanced Practitioner Award

Recognizes an individual who is an advanced practice provider with long-standing contributions to advancing clinical practice in the field of Headache.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Award

Recognizes an individual who has made significant advancements in diversity, equity, and inclusion and worked to eliminate health disparities in Headache Medicine.

Steven B. Graff-Radford Orofacial Pain and Headache Lecture Award

Given in recognition of prominent status and contributions to the field of orofacial pain and headache research.

Women’s Health Science Award

Recognizes an investigator, regardless of gender, whose body of work has made an outstanding contribution to the understanding of topics related to women’s health (sex or gender) and Headache Medicine.

 

“Frontiers in Headache Research” Scholarship Awards

Recipients will receive complimentary meeting registration, a stipend up to $1,000 for reimbursement of eligible travel expenses as noted on the recipient acceptance letter, and a one-year AHS Trainee membership (or a one-year extension of an existing Trainee membership).

Criteria for selection are based on:

  • The quality of the research proposal/project
  • The potential for the proposal, study or thesis to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and future research in the field of Headache Medicine
  • Preference will be given to current AHS Trainee members

Applicant must:

  • Be a Headache Medicine Fellow, Resident and or post-doctoral fellow who is in preparatory, active or completion phase of a basic or clinical research project that is related to headache or cranial nociception
  • Not have won an AHS scholarship within the past 2 years; past winners within 2 years are not eligible to apply
  • Reside in the United States or Canada

Recipient requirements:

  • The top three selected are expected to present their proposal or results to attendees in-person* during the 2024 Scottsdale Headache Symposium
  • All other recipients are expected to submit a poster for display at the meeting and participate in optional in-person* Q&A sessions
