2022 Scottsdale Headache Symposium


Since the inaugural meeting in 1970, the Scottsdale Headache Symposium® continues to be a successful venue for providing practical, clinical, evidence-based information on the diagnosis, management and treatment of headache patients. Education is presented in didactic, case-based, evidence-based, panel and demonstrative formats over the course of four days.

At the conclusion of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Apply knowledge of the diagnosis, epidemiology, and treatment of headache disorders in adults and children in clinical practice and research
  • Apply cutting-edge approaches to the assessment of outcomes in clinical practice
  • Develop strategies for the treatment of refractory headaches

The American Headache Society® is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.


The American Headache Society® designates this Other (live and recorded sessions) activity for a maximum of 47.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.


  • Please note: The maximum number of credits is calculated based on attending all live and watching all recorded concurrent sessions. Some CME sessions are only offered live and will not be recorded.

In-person registration includes admittance to all educational sessions, (except where noted), the exhibit hall, continental breakfast and refreshment breaks each day, as well as several evening receptions during the event. In-person registration also includes full access to the virtual experience which will be available to registrants until May 2023.

The American Headache Society® (AHS) is actively monitoring the health and safety guidance from the Centers for Disease Control as well as state and local health departments. AHS requires attendees to abide by any applicable rules of conduct or local or state laws that may be announced at any time before or during the event, which may include wearing personal protective gear, engaging in social distancing, agreeing to temperature checks or COVID-19 testing requirements, or providing proof of COVID-19 vaccination status. More information on the health and safety for this event will be published closer to the start of the event.

All registrants will have to attest to being fully vaccinated at least two weeks prior to arriving for the event. Additionally, you may have to produce proof of vaccination when you arrive at the meeting.

Credit cards are the preferred method of payment. AHS accepts Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. AHS reserves the right to charge the correct amount, if different from your calculated total. Charges will appear on your statement as “AHS Registration.”

Checks are acceptable when registration is submitted by mail or completed onsite at the Scottsdale Headache Symposium. Checks must be made payable (in US dollars) to the American Headache Society and issued by a US correspondent bank. The registrant is responsible for any and all bank charges. Mail to:

Wire Transfers are accepted provided that the NET AMOUNT of the wire (after bank fees) is sufficient to cover all registration fees in US dollars. Please contact AHS Registration (856-423-0043 or ahshq@talley.com) for additional information on wire transfer payments.

Cash and Travelers Checks (US dollars only) are accepted for onsite registration at the Scottsdale Headache Symposium. Please do not send cash or travelers checks through the mail.

AHS encourages you and your colleagues to take advantage of the discounted fees available when two or more from an organization (same location) register for the meeting. Registration for group discounts must be submitted together (by mail or fax) with acceptable form(s) of payment. A discount of $25.00 per attendee (after the first attendee pays full price) will be applied.

If requested, the AHS will send a personal invitation for participation at the Scottsdale Headache Symposium. This invitation is only meant to assist participants in raising travel funds and obtaining a VISA. This is not a commitment on the part of the AHS to provide any financial support.

Requests must be submitted via email no later than Thursday, October 31, 2022.  Once the cancellation is processed, all fees paid will be refunded. If paid by credit card, please allow up to five business days for the credit to show in your bank account.  THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS AFTER THE OCTOBER 31 DEADLINE.


Attendees wishing to move from the In-person to Virtual Experience due to health, inability, or discomfort with traveling may change their registration at any point with no penalty.

2022 Scottsdale Headache Symposium


“Frontiers in Headache Research” Scholarship Award

The American Headache Society announces the availability of “Frontiers in Headache Research” Scholarship Awards to attend the 2022 Scottsdale Headache Symposium® scheduled for November 17-20, 2022 in Scottsdale, AZ.

Recipients will be selected based on the quality of their research proposal or study and the potential for the proposal, study or thesis to contribute to the advancement of the field of headache medicine. Applicants must be a headache medicine Fellow, Resident and/or post-doctoral fellow in the US or Canada who is in preparatory, active or completion phase of a basic or clinical research project that is related to headache or cranial nociception. Applicants must not have won an AHS scholarship within the past two years. Past winners within two years are not eligible to apply.

Recipients will receive complimentary meeting registration and a one-year AHS Trainee membership if not already a member of AHS, or a one-year extension of their existing AHS Trainee membership and be eligible to receive a stipend up to $1,000 to cover travel expenses.

Recipient requirements:

  • The top three selected will be required to present their proposal or results to attendees at the 2022 Scottsdale Headache Symposium
  • All other recipients will be required to submit a poster for display at the Symposium

Women’s Health Science Award

This award recognizes an investigator, regardless of gender, whose body of work has made an outstanding contribution to the understanding of topics related to women’s health (sex or gender) and headache medicine. Investigators whose original research has pertained to basic science, clinical or multidisciplinary research may be considered for this award.

AHS members may submit 2022 nominations using the form here by Thursday, September 1, 2022.


Steven B. Graff-Radford Orofacial Pain and Headache Lectureship

This award is given in recognition of prominent status and contributions to the field of orofacial pain and headache research.

This award was named in honor of the late Dr. Steven B. Graff-Radford, for his profound contributions to the dental field and the first dentist to become a board member of the American Headache Society.

Please visit the hotel tab here for a list of area hotels in close proximity to the Camelback Inn for your convenience. Please note AHS does not have group rates at these hotels.

Do I need to show proof of vaccination?

Yes. When you pick up your badge at the registration desk, you will be asked to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination. You can do this using your paper card, a picture of your card on your phone, or through mobile apps.  For a good list of ways to make a digital copy of your card, view the article here.

I was going to attend in person. Can I switch to virtual?

Yes! Let us know you want to switch, and we’ll update your registration. There is no difference in cost.

I can no longer attend. Can I switch my registration to a colleague?

Yes! Please contact AHSHQ@talley.com to switch your registration over to someone else. Please be sure to have all their contact information on hand.

Can I register onsite?

Yes, onsite registration will be available. There is a surcharge applied to onsite registrations.

Who do I talk to if I need help onsite?

See a member of the AHS team at the North Registration Desk located in the West Foyer.

I’m attending in person. Can I also see the sessions on-demand?

Yes, all in-person attendees also get access to the virtual experience via the mobile app or using your computer. Most sessions will be available both live streamed and on-demand.



I was going to attend in person. Can I switch to virtual?

Yes! Let us know if you want to switch and we will update your registration. There is no difference in cost.

What do I need to attend virtually?

You can attend using either a computer with speakers/headphones or a smartphone and an internet connection.

How much content will be streamed live?

About 80% of the content shown at the Symposium will be live streamed to the virtual audience. Those sessions, along with the approximately 20% of remaining content, will be available on-demand within 48 hours of the session via our mobile app/virtual event platform.

Will the Pre-Course sessions be live streamed?

If you are a virtual attendee, the pre-courses will not be live-streamed. They will be available as on-demand videos beginning Tuesday, November 22, 2022.

If I attend virtually, can I ask questions during live sessions?

Yes, our virtual event platform allows attendees to ask questions of the speakers and see the questions being asked by our in-person audience. You will even be able to text or video chat with any other attendee (virtual or in-person).

Can I claim CME for virtual attendance?

Yes!  All sessions being offered in-person for CME credits will be available virtually, and the process for claiming credits will be the same for all audience members. Information on obtaining CME credit will be available when the meeting launches in November.

How long will the material be available online?

The Symposium content will be available for up to six months for registered attendees. We anticipate the material will be available until May 26, 2023

How do I book space for an ancillary meeting or social event?

If you are already an exhibitor, please login to the portal and select “additional sponsorship activities”. Select the option that works for you (Ancillary Meetings are for 30 or less and Social Events are for more than 30 attendees).  If you are not an exhibitor, please contact ddiamond@talley.com.  When you go back to your “tasks” you can fill out our application.  You won’t be billed until the application is accepted.  Applications are due September 30 and notifications will be sent out on October 7.
