Portland, Maine:  Headache Neurologist Opportunity

 

A new regional headache center opening in desirable Portland, Maine is seeking a board certified or eligible neurologist with subspecialty focus on headache treatment to be the director of a multispecialty clinic dedicated to combining pharmacologic, procedural and surgical techniques for the elimination or reduction of headache pain.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess an MD or DO degree and be board certified in Neurology by the ABPN.  They must possess a desire to work independently as well as to collaborate with other providers with the common goal of developing and delivering a treatment algorithm that maximizes prevention and relief from cervicofacial pain and minimizes long term cost or dependence on long term medications.  Qualifications are necessary for pursuing a medical license in Maine.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates with experience in various cranial nerve blocks, chemodenervation, RFA, neurostimulation and infusion protocols.  An interest in inpatient management of headache syndromes, and facial pain is beneficial, but not necessary.  Preferred applicants will be certified or eligible in Headache Medicine through the UCNS.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  This position is primarily, if not exclusively, geared towards out-patient clinical treatment five days per week with NO nighttime or weekend call.   Pursuit of other aspects of general neurology is encouraged.  Collaboratively direct a nurse practitioner to maximize patient care.  Initial responsibilities include clinic design and community outreach to help identify patients who are being ineffectively treated, as well as those at risk for developing cervicofacial pain syndromes. An interest in clinical research, including participation in multi-institutional studies, is preferred.  An interest in the education of other medical professionals is necessary, and of medical students and residents, preferred.

 

COMPENSATION:  Compensation is generous at or above the high end of current salary expectations, and is commensurate with the level of experience and added qualifications.  Opportunities exist for becoming an equity partner.   A generous benefit package includes medical insurance, dental insurance, malpractice insurance, 401K retirement plan, CME travel and flexibility in vacation scheduling.
