The Department of Neurology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure clinician educator track. Clinical Expertise is required in the specific area of the acute, chronic, and tertiary care of headache patients including the ability to do therapeutic nerve blocks, botulinum injections, and acute infusion therapies. The candidate will be familiar with the rapidly evolving therapeutic landscape of CGRP antagonist therapy. In addition, the candidate must have an active research program, either basic/translational or clinical hypothesis-driven inquiry into the mechanism, biomarkers and/or novel therapeutic development for headaches. Applicants must have an M.D or M.D./Ph.D. degree. The successful applicant will be board certified in Neurology and Headache Medicine.
Teaching responsibilities may include teaching medical students, residents, clinical fellows, physicians and fellows in allied specialties such as ENT, pain management, internal medicine. The candidate will train residents, fellows and selected faculty in the techniques of botulinum toxin and other injection/infusion therapies for headache. The candidate will help identify and schedule appropriate speakers and topics for the weekly headache group conference. They will participate in mentoring and direction of the research component of the headache fellowship program within the first two years of initial appointment.
Clinical responsibilities may include participating in the recruitment, career development, and clinical activity of additional headache specialists and participating in coordinating appropriate deployment of MD and APP division members in addition to personal clinics at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and other affiliated institutional sites. Opportunities for participation in industry-sponsored drug trials and institutional therapeutic initiatives may also be available.
Research or scholarship responsibilities may include developing a cutting-edge research program that interdigitates with other researchers within the department, PSOM and Penn neuroscience-related community. The candidate will develop an independently funded program, that provides a bridge to the clinical practice of headache medicine.
